Andrea had the privilege of working as Assistant Camera on a documentary shoot with French Director Benoît Grimont, as he filmed in the United States for “Menaces sur la forêt” (“Threatened Forests”). The film charts the recent arrival of biomass power in France and how this industry treats wood as a seemingly endless supply of ‘renewable’ energy. The film reveals the true threat that biomass energy poses to forests in Europe and beyond.
For this leg of the journey, we joined the Dogwood Alliance on a real undercover investigation of a wood pellet manufacturer facility on the East coast. Over the course of several intense days on the road, we followed an empty logging truck from the facility to a clearcut and then trekked through the swamp to film evidence of the destruction. Here’s a full account told by Dogwood’s Adam Macon: “Uncovering the Truth: Investigating the Destruction of Precious Wetland Forests”. It was quite an adventure, overcome with a wave of emotions as we witnessed firsthand the devastating impacts of the biomass industry on the forests and surrounding communities.
