CASE STUDY: The Wood Thrush Connection
Clients/Partners: Climate Listening Project, National Audubon Society, Forsyth Audubon, Audubon International
Across the world, people have been inspired to take action for birds and find solutions to the conservation challenges they face. The Audubon Society’s groundbreaking Birds and Climate Change Report revealed that more than half of North America’s birds are being impacted by climate change.
We partnered with Audubon and the Climate Listening Project to capture the story of the Wood Thrush as told through the people taking action for birds and climate change.
Main objectives:
Educate viewers about the threats of climate change compounded by dwindling habitat
Demonstrate how Audubon scientists and researchers are working across borders toward a full life-cycle approach to conservation
Inspire citizens to take action for the benefit of birds and to increase the resilience of birds adapting to the effects of climate change
When we set out produce a short documentary for the Climate Listening Project about the threats migratory birds are facing because of climate change, it was important to share this story as told through the people taking action for the birds. We focussed on the efforts of Forsyth Audubon’s Wood Thrush Tracking Project to tell the story of the partnership between North Carolina and Belize Audubon and efforts to protect the bird on two continents amid a changing climate.
We followed the migratory path of the Wood Thrush to Belize, where we interviewed field scientists, Audubon members, and residents who related their personal experiences. This inspiring film documents how across the world, people have been inspired to take action for birds and find solutions to the conservation challenges they face.
