Caracol Belize

Following the path of the Wood Thrush, we tracked it to a point near the ancient Mayan temple of Caracol. The city is approximately 200 square kilometers, covering an area much larger than present-day Belize City (the largest metropolitan area in the country) and supported more than twice the modern city’s population.

From the top of the highest altar, we could see the devastating impacts of deforestation on the neighboring country of Guatemala.
