Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary

The Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary is a nature reserve in the Stann Creek District of south-central Belize. It was established to protect the forests, fauna and watersheds of an approximately 400 square km area of the eastern slopes of the Maya Mountains. The reserve was founded in 1990 as the first wilderness sanctuary for the JaguarĀ and is regarded as a premier site for Jaguar preservation in the world.

DJI_0026A team of field researches have been working in Cockscomb Basin on a project to band birds in the area. We took an ATV ride out to the site and watch them in action. They caught 2 Wood Thrush while we were out on site! Very exciting day for all parties involved.
