After presenting at the University of Montana, the Climate Listening Project visited Quinn Organic Research Center, the farm of Bob Quinn (featured in Laura Lengnick’s book “Resilient Agriculture”). They spent the day touring the farm with local videographer Dave Pecunies, capturing the story of this thriving research center that strives to explore cutting-edge ideas on the high plains of Montana.
Present day: 50 acres of the farm were returned from the renter for experiments in 2004. The experiments increased to 120 acres in 2006 including, dry land black Indian corn, dry land storage vegetable production, a 1/4-acre fruit orchard, and bio-fuel and lubricant production. In 2007, the experimental plots increased to 320 acres in order to develop a model for a small-scale dry land farm producing high value crops as well as its own fuel and fertilzer without any government payments.
